Title: Multiscale Analysis of Waves and Applications

Abstract:

Wave patterns with multiple space-time scales will be illustrated  with examples in combustion, nonlinear optics, and hearing science.  Though physically observed waves are different (flames, light pulses, and sounds), a common mathematical theme is to develop asymptotic or orthogonal representations and efficient computing.
