Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss two results on moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces:
(1) a metric constructed canonically from the hyperbolic metrics of Riemann surfaces
of negative Euler characteristic.
(2) construction of a universal moduli space of Riemann surfaces which contains all
moduli spaces of compact Riemann surfaces with an appropriate measure.
The second part is a joint work with Juergen Jost.
