Title:  Elementary Modular Representation Theory

Abstract:
    We discuss recent joint work with Jon Carlson, Julia Pevtsova, and Andrei Suslin.  We are interested in actions of a finite group  G  (or similar structure) on a vector space over a field of characteristic p > 0 dividing the order of G.  The special case G = Z/p is fully understood, but there is much to investigate in the case G = Z/p x Z/p.  Because Z/p \times Z/p has wild representation type, we focus attention on a special class of representations, those of constant Jordan type.  Many examples and structure theorems have been developed.  If time permits, we will mention generalizations to arbitrary finite group schemes.
