Holomorphic convexity of covering spaces of Kahler manifolds

 

One of most important problems in the function theory on covering spaces of an algebraic manifold is the Shafarevich Conjecture(SC for short) which states the universal covering of every algebraic manifold is holomorphically convex. It is true for smooth curves thanks to the well-known uniformization theorem. However, SC remains open for higher dimensions, even algebraic surfaces. In our talk,  we will give some partial affirmative results to it. The first part is about the general dimensions whereas the second is due to algebraic surfaces.
