Abstract:The Witten genus is the loop space analogue of the famous Hirzebruch A-hat genus, which is an obstruction of the exsistence of positive scalar curvature on 4k dimensional spin manifolds. Stepahn Stolz conjectured that the Witten guenus should be an obstruction of the existence of positive Ricci curvature on 4k dimensional stringy manifold.  Complete intersections in products of complex projective spaces systematically provide us a lot of stringy manifolds, which have applications  in mathematics and physics.  In this talk, we will briefly show that the stringy complete intersections admit positive Ricci curvature and their Witten genera vanish. Oue result, generalizing an earlier result of  Landweber and Stong,  is an evidence of the Stolz conjecture.
