Abstract: Moduli spaces of compact Riemann surfaces are central objects in mathematics and have been studied by different methods. Since compact Riemann surfaces can be realized as smooth projective curves, moduli spaces of compact Riemann surfaces can be compactified by adding stable curves, which gives rise to the Deligne-Mumford compactification.  Compact Riemann surfaces can also be viewed as compact hyperbolic surfaces, and we will discuss several results on compactifications of moduli spaces of compact Riemann surfaces from the metric geometric perspective.
