title: An introduction to Heegaard Floer homology, part I

abstract: Heegaard Floer (HF) homology is a theory introduced by
Ozsvath and Szabo. Using ideas and techniques from symplectic
geometry, they associate a package of invariants to low
dimensional objects, like 3-manifolds, 4-manifolds, knots and
links. This series of talks aims to give a very brief introduction
to Heegaard Floer homology. After an overview of the theory, we
will cover the following topics: Morse homology, symplectic
geometry and the definition of Heegaard Floer homology,
holomorphic disks, combinatorial approaches to HF.
