Introduction:

Mathematics is the most important methodology for people to understand and describe nature, while algebra is one of the underpinnings of mathematics. Algebraic method is also one of the most powerful tools to study physics, chemistry and other branches of natural science, because a lot of math models can be reduced to algebraic structures and algebraic equations. The mathematical powerful countries are all paying great attention to algebra. In recent years the application of algebraic method in almost all the branches of mathematics are becoming more and more prevalent as in the reports given in the international congress of mathematicians and award ceremonies of the Fields medals.

Cohomology theory and representation theory now play central roles not only in algebra but also in other subjects of mathematics. The purpose of this summer school is to invite the experts and scholars in the fields of cohomology theory and representation theory to give some reports about the progress in their resent research, to communicate with each other, and to find the applications and trend of developments of such algebraic theories. We wish this summer school to supply a good platform for the young researchers and postgraduate students to know the frontier information of such fields and to meet the famous experts in China or abroad. We also wish this summer school to play a significant role in promoting the research and applications of algebra in China.
